Highlands Real Estate

Slightly northwest of downtown Denver is the historic Highlands neighborhood. Once home to mainly Protestant immigrants, the Highlands neighborhood now has a multi-cultural identity; tasty taquerías share the block with trendy new restaurants; neighborhood pubs cozy up to high-end establishments; and independent boutiques and coffee shops are on every corner. This eclectic vibe – and its proximity to downtown – is what makes Highlands "the" place to buy in Denver real estate. To discover more about the Highlands real estate market, click here.

Homes in the Highlands

While most of northwest Denver is generally considered the "Highlands", it's actually a mix of several smaller neighborhoods – Highlands (also known as East Highlands, Lower Highlands and LoHi), West Highlands, Sunnyside, Berkley and Sloan's Lake – that are all tucked in between I-25 and I-70.

Founded in 1858, Highlands' homes were originally created as refuge from the "pollution and low morals" of early Denver city. As a result, churches, Masonic Lodges and sanitariums are peppered throughout the neighborhoods. Mansions from this period are still evident along Federal Boulevard – one of the main thoroughfares of the Highlands.

While Highlands real estate has always offered a wide variety of historic single family homes, there is now more residential diversity and an increased density of homes: quaint bungalows, Tudor and Victorian homes intermingle with duplexes, condos and lofts. This variety of housing means it's easy to satisfy a lot of audiences in the Highlands.

Just slightly northwest of the city, homes in the Highlands truly define "perfect location"; a 5-minute bike ride gets you downtown and some neighborhoods are now within walking distance thanks to the Highland Bridge – a pedestrian bridge that links the Lower Highlands (LoHi) with Lower Downtown (LoDo). That means that restaurants, bars and Denver's nightlife are close at hand, along with Union Station (the main transit hub of Denver), the REI flagship store and miles of bike trails. Regis University – the only Jesuit University in Colorado – is also nestled in amongst Highlands homes. The Highlands commercial districts are divided into three parts: Lower Highlands (LoHi) near the Platte River, Highlands Square at 32nd & Lowell and 44th & Tennyson Street for your shopping and dining pleasure. With all of this, it is easy to see why Highlands' homes have quickly become "the" real estate to buy in Denver.
